First Aid

Things You Should Carry on Your Bike

Note: It is your responsibility to carry personal In Case of Emergency (ICE) information (phone numbers, allergies/antidotes you carry, blood type, drug allergies, etc.) in a conspicuous location (container, bracelet, etc.) in case you are unable to communicate. Do not ride impaired by any substance, prescribed or otherwise, or if overtired, dizzy, or just not feeling right—you are responsible for your own safety and should not risk injury to yourself or other riders.

You should carry the following items on your bike at all times:

  • Gloves (not latex)
  • CPR mask or barrier device
  • Water
  • Packets of sugar (for diabetics)
  • Low dose & regular aspirin
  • Clothing shears
  • Bandaids
  • 4×4 gauze (10)
  • 8×10 surgical pads (ABD pads) (3)
  • Tape
  • Triangular bandages (3)
  • 3″ roller gauze or Kerlix
  • Emergency (space) blanket
  • Cardboard or SAM splints
  • Pen and small notebook or paper to record vital signs—pulse & respirations/min (30secs x 2)
